A word a day week

la

LA · one spoken or sung note · 6

  • the

La is the definite article—the unusually international-looking member of a vocabulary that otherwise refuses donor-language clues.

Seven-note spelling

Say it, play it, flash it

  1. la6 · indigo
Treble-clef notation for la la
On a modern treble clef, using C4 through B4.

The sixth one-note word is the definite article the. Its familiar appearance is a consequence of the note name, not an etymological borrowing claim.

Gajewski’s grammar also shows a three-line staff and a special shorthand. Here, the notes appear on a modern treble clef. The C-major pitches are a playback choice; Solresol does not require absolute pitch.

Tiny sentence

A teaching noun phrase using doremi, the dictionary word for day.

Treble-clef notation for la · do · re · mi ladoremi

Sources and cautions

Solresol is a priori: resemblance between la and articles in Romance languages is not treated here as a donor relationship.
