A word a day week

dore

DO-re · two spoken or sung notes · 1–2

  • I
  • me
  • we

Dore is first person without a compulsory headcount: context and number marking decide whether it is I, me, or we.

Seven-note spelling

Say it, play it, flash it

  1. do1 · red
  2. re2 · orange
Treble-clef notation for do · re dore
On a modern treble clef, using C4 through B4.

The binary sequence do–re is the first-person pronoun, covering subject and object uses and, in the dictionary's broad gloss, singular or plural reference.

Gajewski’s grammar also shows a three-line staff and a special shorthand. Here, the notes appear on a modern treble clef. The C-major pitches are a playback choice; Solresol does not require absolute pitch.

Tiny sentence

Dore sidofa.

I begin

“I begin.”

This is the grammar's basic verb example, expanded from its abbreviated d-r / s-d-f note spelling.

Treble-clef notation for do · re · si · do · fa doresidofa
On a modern treble clef, using C4 through B4.

There is a short pause between words. The C-major pitches are a playback choice.

Sources and cautions

Gajewski explicitly uses this pattern to show that Solresol verbs keep one form rather than agreeing with the subject.
